Allergic rhinitis affects more than 500 million people globally, impairing the quality of life and well-being. Korean startup Mirint Co., Ltd CEO YongHo Kim got motivated to start the company as he could not find a reasonable solution for his allergies. Mirint has developed a patented portable laser treatment solution for allergy patients – KoRhina – that uses bioactive effects without any side effects. It also helps in prevention of recurring allergies.
Device also helps in the prevention
KoRhina was developed for rhinitis patients with allergies, and it can be carried around anywhere to treat the condition with convenience. Its laser expansion feature enables a wider area coverage for better treatment effect. The device has 63% effectiveness in reducing eosinophils (main effector cells in allergic rhinitis) over 30% effectiveness with normal laser. The small wearable medical device improves allergic rhinitis by irradiating 650nm and 5mW of semiconductor laser in the nasal cavity.
The device, worn directly on the nose, can be controlled with smartphones. With KoRhina, it is possible to see the personal health info through integrating the smartphone app. Also, the device provides environmental information that allergic people react to, like pollen, dust, weather, temperature and humidity so that the patients can take preventive actions. The main consumer group is rhinitis patients in their teens to 30s, but all age groups can use it.
