The future where robots will do all operative tasks is not far. In Korea, Future Kitchen, an unmanned automated robot kitchen platform service, announced the completion of its automation design for a robot that will do everything from chicken production to delivery. Future Kitchen already has an autonomous driving delivery robot in collaboration with startup Neubility and technology verification (PoC, Proof of concept). This is the first case in the world where a robot is responsible for both the main areas of chicken manufacturing and delivery.

Future Kitchen is a company established through the Korean accelerator Future Play’s Company Building section. The startup is backed by Hashed, Nongshim, Nongshim Engineering, and Stonebridge Ventures.

Service available at Future Kitchen pop-up store

Future Kitchen opened a pop-up store for the first brand, ‘Chicken de Chef’ in Songdo International City, Yeonsu-gu, Incheon, in 2021. The store uses the food tech automation system technology, upgraded by collaborating with Nongshim and Nongshim Engineering for food material supply and unmanned kitchen design.

In addition, in the delivery service sector, an autonomous robot delivery service has been provided in collaboration with Neubility, an urban last-mile robot delivery startup. The delivery robot was designated as a special case for the demonstration of a regulatory sandbox by the Ministry of Science and ICT last month.

When a customer orders at the ‘Chicken de Chef’ through an app, the robot-driven manufacturing process prepares the batter and fries chicken recipe through chef input. The cooked chicken boasts the same level of quality as that made by the chef. After the packaging has been completed, Neubility’s self-driving delivery robot completes delivery to the place of order. Michelin Star Chef Jang Jin-mo has developed Chicken de Chef’s recipe. The startup uses the highest-grade animal welfare pure meat in all products, providing customers with healthy and delicious food.

The startup assures that its robot manufacturing of chicken recipes implements high-quality taste without errors. In addition, it is healthier to cook using robots over the existing chicken manufacturing as the vapor generated in heating oil can cause lung disease and have the risk of burns. Future Kitchen expects to block these risks by manufacturing chickens using robots.

Neubility’s Lee Sang-min says, “Initially people chose services like Ryder for the delivery service, but with the robot service, there are more deliveries in lesser time. Also, looking at the customers’ reaction, including the children I met in this PoC we have gained confidence that Future Kitchen’s unmanned Kitchen and robot delivery using ‘Neubies’ can be established in our daily life faster than we thought.” Future Kitchen’s Chul said, “With the successful testing of Songdo pop-up store built for Food Technology of the Future Automation System kitchen we are sure to provide fine dining food anywhere in future. We want to expand the technology globally, help create the future celebrity chef and food creators.”
