A recent survey has revealed that Open AI’s ChatGPT app is experiencing significant popularity in South Korea, with over 3 million monthly users. The survey by App /retail analysis service WiseApp·Retail·Goods found that 3.15 million Koreans used the ChatGPT app in May 2024. This number represents approximately 6% of the country’s 51.2 million smartphone users (Android+ iOS).
The survey also provided insights into the demographics of ChatGPT app users in Korea. The gender distribution shows a higher usage rate among males, who constitute 60.4% of the users, compared to 39.6% of females. Age-wise, the app is most popular among those in their 20s, accounting for 28.6% of the user base. This is followed by users in their 30s (23.4%), teens (14.0%), 40s (20.8%), 50s (11.4%), and those 60 years or older (1.8%).
Interestingly, users in their 20s to 40s make up the majority of the ChatGPT app user base, indicating a strong preference for the app among young and middle-aged adults. Collectively, these age groups account for nearly 73% of the total users.
The survey highlights the growing integration of AI-driven applications like ChatGPT into the daily lives of Koreans, particularly among the tech-savvy younger generation. With the app’s diverse user base, it is clear that ChatGPT is not only a tool for casual conversation but also a valuable resource for various age groups seeking information and assistance.
