Gyeongbuk Technopark, a renowned South Korean technological hub, has taken a significant step towards fostering international collaboration and technological advancement. From August 8th to 10th, Gyeongbuk Technopark organized an ‘IT Startup Competency Reinforcement Training‘ event in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. The training, held in partnership with Uzbekistan’s IT Park and New Uzbekistan University, aimed to bolster the capabilities of local IT startups, equip them for global expansion, and strengthen the foundations of Uzbekistan’s burgeoning technology landscape.
This strategic initiative forms a crucial part of Gyeongbuk Technopark’s involvement in the Korea International Cooperation Agency‘s (KOICA) PMC project, dedicated to nurturing sustainable growth within Uzbekistan’s IT Park. The IT Park, under the aegis of Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Digital Technology, was established in 2019 to catalyze the development of the nation’s IT industry.
Among the highlights of the training was a lecture by Hyunwook Jung, CEO of BeSUCCESS Media Group, who shared insightful strategies for Uzbek IT startups to penetrate and thrive in the global market. Additionally, personalized 1:1 mentoring sessions were conducted to provide direct guidance to local Uzbek companies. Mr. Jeong emphasized the growing interest of startups in expanding their horizons beyond national borders, underscoring the significance of global market access.
CEO Jung remarked, “Through this IT startup competency strengthening training, we’ve observed a strong aspiration among Uzbekistan startups to establish a global presence, with Korea being perceived as an appealing market for expansion. Gyeongbuk Technopark, as the orchestrator of this initiative, is committed to supporting the growth of Uzbekistan’s startup ecosystem from diverse perspectives. This collaboration is poised to pave the way for future cooperation between Korean and Uzbek companies.”
The Korea International Cooperation Agency’s (KOICA) PMC project, scheduled from 2021 to 2025, is geared towards the sustainable growth of IT Park in Uzbekistan. Gyeongbuk Technopark, serving as the host organization (Consortium: Korea Technopark) in partnership with Promotion Association and Dine Leaders, is dedicated to driving technological innovation-based industrial development.
The project encompasses a comprehensive range of activities, including establishing an effective IT Park operational model, enhancing IT Park’s human resource capacity, and boosting the capabilities of IT companies. These efforts collectively position IT Park as a pivotal player in the realization of Uzbekistan’s digital economy strategy.
