Epapyrus, a Korean company specializing in electronic document and data technology, has acquired ByteScout, Inc., a company specializing in PDF and document technology in the US.

ByteScout was founded in 2006 by software programmer Eugene Mironichev and is headquartered in Wilmington, Delaware, USA. Its main product is PDF SDK for Microsoft’s “.NET” platform, and it has expanded its business area starting with the PDF API service through the “PDF.co” platform in 2016.

Kim Jeong-hee, CEO of Epapyrus, said, “Epapyrus’s goal is to provide an online API service that allows developers to freely implement various functions such as document creation, storage, sharing, and information extraction. ByteScout’s PDF technology and API service skills will be of great help in achieving our goals.”

During the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, ByteScout grew rapidly as demand for non-face-to-face business and remote work environments surged. It has more than 2,000 customers worldwide, 36% of which are in the United States. This acquisition is expected to generate about $1 million in additional overseas sales.

With this acquisition, the company’s PDF and document data technology capabilities have been further enhanced, and it is expected that the online API services will be soon introduced in the future and Epapyrus’ existing products will also gain momentum in their advancement.

CEO Kim Jeong-hee said, “Within three years, Epapyrus will become a ‘web-based document’ company that provides API services that developers who build electronic document work environments are looking for first. The rich technical and human assets of recently acquired companies, including ByteScout, will be our important cornerstone.”

Epapyrus has collaborated with IPEX of the United States and Kuminas of Japan, both of which Epapyrus acquired in 2022, to upgrade their services such as PDF viewer “StreamDocs” and PDF conversion solution ‘PDF Gateway’.

Epapyrus is located in Pangyo Techno Valley, Seongnam-si, Gyeonggi-do, and some of the company’s major customers are Naver, POSCO, KB Securities, Samsung Electronics, Hanwha Q Cells, Hyundai Kefico, and CJ CheilJedang.
