The noses of dogs are known to be good at distinguishing various objects by sniffing. In addition to that, the noses also can be used to identify dogs as every dog’s nose print is unique like fingerprints. A Korean startup company Petnow has developed and released an app with Artificial Intelligence to register and inquire the nose prints of dogs.

Using the Petnow app, owners can report a registered dog as missing and be notified when the dog’s nose print is inquired by a person who found the dog. The company claims an average accuracy of 98.97% for identification, and using the technology, the company is hoping to build a world without lost or abandoned dogs.

Petnow boasts of accuracy and speed

The identification solution of Petnow can be useful for the owners who are not willing to microchip their dogs due to concerns of cost, invasiveness, or side effects. The owner can simply use the app to have their dogs registered on Petnow. Once a camera is launched in the app, it automatically performs the tracking of a nose to scan and captures the most detailed nose print possible. The dog’s biometric data on the app is registered along with the owner’s details.

“AI-driven identification using dogs’ nose prints developed by Petnow Inc. can help the insurance companies and other pet-related services, namely hotels, clinics, or training programs better identify dogs using only smartphones and the app”, states the company. The company is hoping to substitute traditional identification measures like tagging, microchip implants, etc., that are costly, less accessible, and painful for dogs. The app is currently available for dogs only, but additional functionality is scheduled to be introduced by the end of 2022.

Using the chance of winning the Best of Innovation in CES 2022 Innovation Awards, Petnow Inc. is seeking to establish its global partnership with companies in the pet industry and expand into the US pet industry in 2022. The company has been a member of Samsung’s C-Lab Outside program. Petnow Inc. also has been enrolling in the POSCO Idea Market Place program and the Korean government accelerator program TIPS.
