Maro Studio, a Korean startup specializing in digital content production, has attracted an undisclosed strategic investment from Kidari Studio, a global comprehensive content company. Kidari Studio is developing various media content like e-books, e-learning, and Webtoon. Kidari Studio plans to introduce a new type of digital content to global users through this investment by applying webtoon IP to virtual characters.
Maro Studio produces digital content with a focus on 3D animation. Recently, it launched the Virtual Youtuber group ‘V&U’ and entered the global virtual character market. The startup has won the Presidential Award at the Korea Contents Awards for ‘Udang Tang Tang Aiku,’ an animation for children’s safety education. Maro Studio has co-produced the K-pop idol animation “Shining Star” with SM Entertainment, which was loved by K-pop fans.
An official from Kidari Studio said, “Thanks to the advantage of overcoming the limitations of existing streamers, I think the market using virtual characters will continue to grow. Synergy is expected between Kidari Studio’s global webtoon value chain and Maro Studio’s virtual content production capabilities. We will strive to lead the flow of digital content in the metaverse in the future.”
