Social Media has become an inherent part of the millennial and Gen Z lifestyle, and so it is challenging to keep it away from Gen Alpha kids (4 to 12 years old). The success of various video-sharing sites like YouTube, Tiktok in the last two years amongst the young population reflects the fact that kids’ curious energy can’t be dismissed.

At the same time, one can’t deny the negative implications of social media on kids like trolling, online bullying, mindless content consumption, peer pressure, bad influence, lack of learning, etc. However, parents can find a healthy diversion to satiate the growing minds like BeAptive – Korean startup’s social media app designed for kids. The social media app is BeAptive‘s first product in the market, that focuses on the digital development of K-12 learners through educational social media.

Social Media App that helps in learning

Most social media apps have a minimum age restriction of 13 years. However, as per a survey, 78% of 10–12-year-olds have a social media presence. BeAptive is an education-driven social media for children. It is perfectly suitable for kids under the age of 13 years. BeAptive has been designed to have age-appropriate content, educational value, and a safe community. It fulfills the basic expectations from social media of connecting with friends, an outlet for sharing and self-expression. Also, BeAptive has educational features that add to the learning process for kids.

“BeAptive plans to offer access to exclusive content from partnering communities and help kids learn new skills, nurture new hobbies with fun challenges. The startup wants BeAptive to be a tool to help kids showcase their creative and academic potential on a social platform”, said CEO & founder Rachel Chung.

Forming partnerships & global expansion plans

The App is currently in its pre-order stage, available on the App Store and Google Play. BeAptive will be available in English and Korean. The revenue model for BeAptive will be through parental subscription, with free download and premium features and B2B partnerships. In 2021, the startup wants to partner with various communities and organizations and aim for more than 70K downloads. The company intends to focus on B2B development this year and eventually go for global expansion.

The startup has formed meaningful partnerships with SEAMEO Thailand (Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization), EduPark Thailand, and Luxrobo, Korea. For the development of BeAptive, the startup has already raised $400k and has been part of the accelerator program of Seoul Global Startup Center(SGSC) and Seoul Startup Hub. BeAptive team is participating in the 2021 SGSC Global Bootcamp. The startup is looking for more funds for marketing and tech development and networking to explore the USA market.
