Special Session: Talk with Fei-Fei Li, Stanford University
Brian Khoo, Managing Partner, Formation Eight spoke with Professor Fei-Fei Li from Stanford University about “How can we shape a future where human and AI collaborate?”. Fei-Fei Li spoke in detail about the role of AI in the daily life and businesses. She talked about AI’s role in the current pandemic situation and emphasized how it can be a great technology to care for our aging population.
Fei-Fei Li is considered one of the prominent leading person in the field of deep-learning and an expert in AI. She is also part of the Stanford Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence (HAI) dedicated to research and advancement in AI technology.
She talked about her involvement in AI and healthcare research. “One of the potential usage of AI which has heightened in the pandemic era is in the need for our seniors. The technology we are working on can allow seniors to be at home where smart sensors are part of their caretaking to ensure that they don’t show early signs of infection. The technology can help in chronic illnesses, monitoring daily activity patterns, So the pandemic really increased my strong desire to get this technology to work.”
Talking about the future of AI and whether AI can be a danger to the world, Fei-Fei Li explained that AI’s dimensions can never overtake the dimensions of human life.
“It is responsibility for all of us involved in AI that AI technology tools do not present any adverse impact. It is a double-edged sword and hence important that we design and develop and deploy technology sensibly.” Fei-Fei Li said that it has to be a collective movement for way ahead with AI and policymakers, social scientists, political scientists, leaders, and technology innovators all work together.
Chango Program Demo Day
This special event was for Mobile Apps and Game developers. The ChangGoo Program Demo Day event introduced Top ChangGoo developers with their products. Ten startups participated in the demo day. The App session included startups – Momsitter (mfort), WAVE (WAVE Corporation), Cash Mission (SelectStar Inc.), Video Monster (Videomonster), Diet Friends (PF Corp.), Brush Monster (Kitten Planet). The Games Session had startups – Cats Purr (Nano Company), Mafia42 (TEAM42), Idle Defence Arena (BillionaireGames), Hero Town (Superlink).
Re-challenge Day – IR
14 companies participated in this session that was for Startup IR, re-starting company boosting seminar, investment attraction networking, etc.Mini lectures were conducted with experts in related fields such as the latest trends in domestic and foreign companies, successful investment cases, and startups’ growth stories.
AI Championship 2020 and Awards
Day 2 of COMEUP 2020 also featured the AI Championship 2020 and Awards for AI solution startups where eight companies were recognized for their innovative solutions. The Ministry of SMEs and Startups promoted the event as the second AI solution competition
“Power of Connection, Digital Dream 9.” The competition aims to help senior ventures and large corporation to AI and big data problems. Eight outstanding teams won 30 million won for their work in 8 sections of the competition. These teams were from Hangul, Naver, BC CARD, Graceful Brother, We make, and LG Science Park. The awards were given by Kang Seok, the chairman of the evaluation committee, Park Young-Sun, the Minister of SMEs and Startups, and other notable personalities who appraised the startups for their ground-breaking solutions.
There was also a workshop on attracting investors with Wook Ahn SEMA Translink Investment, Nara Kim, Upright consulting(CEO) as speakers. Chris Chae, Managing Director of Nextrans, Sue Xu, Partner of Amino Capital, John Ha, CEO of Bear Robotics, Andreas Surya, Principal of Kejora Ventures, Jin Soo Kim, KT Investment(Director) also conducted investment talks for the startups. The video promotions and pitching of COMEUP STARS global and Korean startups was also accessible for all attendees.
