In the realm of healthcare technology, South Korea’s Camelotech is making waves with its innovative approach to automating the production of herbal medicines, specifically tailored for oriental medicine hospitals and clinics. Founded in June 2020 by CEO Jung Won-cheol, Camelotech has been on a mission to revolutionize the way traditional herbal medicines are prepared, dispensed, and prescribed within the field of oriental medicine.
The Herbal Medicine Revolution
While conventional pharmaceuticals are typically dispensed at pharmacies and subsequently prescribed at hospitals, oriental medicine takes a different route. In this realm, not only is treatment and prescription carried out within hospitals, but the herbal medicines themselves are also dispensed and manufactured on-site. Camelotech’s breakthrough solution, known as the Herbal Medicine Automatic Pharmaceutical System (HAP System), seeks to automate and streamline these previously manual processes, ultimately alleviating the workload of oriental medicine hospitals.
“In the case of existing equipment for manufacturing decoctions, the boiling time is at least 200 minutes. It is transferred to packaging equipment and goes through a washing process to prepare herbal medicine for the next patient. For this reason, one decoction equipment can make herbal medicine for three people per day. Camelotech can make up to 2 materials (40 sheets, 2 boxes) in 5 minutes. It is possible to automatically clean and sterilize the next herbal medicine,” explains CEO Jung.
Camelotech’s HAP System automates virtually every step of the herbal medicine production process. From preparation and manufacturing to packaging and cleaning, all tasks can be executed with the click of a button. Moreover, the system allows users to monitor the remaining herbal medicine in real-time and even place orders online. This level of automation represents a game-changer in the industry.
Redefining the Market
The global market for complementary and alternative medicine continues to expand, with a particular focus on herbal medicines. In South Korea alone, the herbal medicine industry grows by an average of 10% each year. Camelotech is poised to capture a significant share of this market by offering a solution that drastically reduces production time and offers greater flexibility in dosage.
Camelotech has already secured partnerships with seven major hospitals, including University and Korean Medicine Hospital. With these collaborations, the company has achieved impressive sales figures and it achieved a surplus within a year of starting the business. The company’s vision extends beyond the South Korean market, with plans to expand globally, with Japan as the primary target.
CEO Jung’s journey into the oriental medicine field is deeply rooted in family connections, and his passion for addressing inefficiencies in the industry led to the birth of Camelotech. “I decided to start a business because I thought I could solve this problem through automation,” he notes. The company has already attracted significant investment, and its growth trajectory continues upward.
As the company plans to expand its reach and impact, it is evident that Camelotech is committed to making a lasting difference in the healthcare industry, one herbal medicine at a time.
