WeRobotics, a wearable robot development startup, Daewoo E&C and the Korea Labor Welfare Corporation’s Rehabilitation Engineering Research Institute participated in the ‘2022 demand-based customized service robot’ contest by the Korea Robot Industry Promotion Agency. The collaboration has been selected as the ‘Development and Dissemination Project.’

The project aims to provide a demand-tailored robot solution through demonstration by service fields such as industry, commerce, and medical service. WeRobotics and Daewoo teams are seeking to resolve the issue faced by the labour force of fatigue due to heavy weights and repeated labour work.

WeRobotics, Daewoo E&C, and Rehabilitation Engineering Research Institute were selected by proposing a ‘wearable robot solution’ that can be worn at all times on construction sites and a ‘smart work care service’ for musculoskeletal issues sustainable productivity of workers.

Wearable Robots for better support & work

Suppose the safety of the wearable robot for muscle support and the effectiveness of preventing musculoskeletal system disasters is verified in this project. In that case, it will be possible to deploy the wearable robot on the construction site by using the safety management cost of the construction project cost.

There are two types of wearable robots for workers that will be used in business: a waist assist robot and a walking assist robot. It maximizes usability within the construction site with features such as a light weight of 1 kg for strength support and wearability at all times, long use time of 4 to 10 hours, support for various body sizes and shapes, customized assistance for personal / work tasks, and minimal motion restrictions.

In addition, it plans to provide services to prevent musculoskeletal disorders and maintain productivity by analyzing work data such as the posture, load, working hours, and frequency of workers collected by sensors mounted on the wearable robot.

Lee Yeon-baek, CEO of WeRobotics, said, “Through this project, we will prove the safety and effectiveness of wearable robots in construction sites and then spread them to not only construction sites but also logistics centers and factories.”

On the other hand, WeRobotics participated in a project in which Future Play and Daewoo E&C matched technology-based startups to innovate construction sites. This event aimed to discover innovative opportunities for smart construction and collaborate with working-level officials within Daewoo E&C for technology-based startups invested by Future Play.

WeRobotics was founded by Professor Yongjae Kim of the Korea University of Technology and Education and Samsung Electronics Robotics. WeRobotics wants to provide the value and convenience necessary for humans. Based on high-performance safety robot design and control technology, the company has been developing innovative wearable robots that are comfortable to wear, flexible and capable of supporting large forces.
