Silicon Valley startup XL8, known for its artificial intelligence (AI) machine translation technology optimized for media content, participated in the International Broadcast Convention ‘IBC2023‘ held at the Amsterdam RAI Convention Center in the Netherlands from September 15 to 18. XL8 introduced an enhanced collaborative feature for its media-focused video translation platform, ‘MediaCAT,’ during the event. IBC2023 is one of the world’s top three exhibitions in the broadcasting industry, and XL8 operated a booth at 1 Exhibition Hall F36 for four days.
Launched last year, ‘MediaCAT‘ is a cloud-based AI engine developed to efficiently localize media and entertainment content. It aims to enhance the productivity of translation service providers and experts. The 3.0 upgrade version to be showcased at the exhibition incorporates generative AI technology, enabling workflow automation for tasks like machine translation and dubbing, improved collaboration functions, team and expert management, and customized project creation, all catering to media content localization.
To enhance user experience, MediaCAT 3.0 introduces generative AI-based translation editing tools to translation editors. These tools provide real-time suggestions for context-aware editing, auto-complete translations, word matching, and translation sentence accuracy. These features are not limited to XL8’s MediaCAT platform and can be easily integrated into various platforms via API, ensuring user-friendly accessibility.
XL8’s CEO, Jeong Young-hoon, expressed the importance of automating and facilitating collaboration in a time when global content consumption is expanding worldwide. He emphasized the need for localization systems that seamlessly integrate with existing systems. The AI-powered MediaCAT editor is expected to play a pivotal role in saving users time and optimizing costs, presenting a new model of collaboration between AI and human experts in the localization industry.
At IBC2023, XL8 demonstrated how advanced AI technology can be easily integrated into complex localization workflows. This includes XL8’s generative AI machine translation and transcription capabilities. These features are planned for integration with leading global localization companies such as Unna, Alpha CRC, Blu Digital Group, and Giant within the year.
In addition to showcasing its innovative translation platform, XL8 presented ‘EventCAT,’ a solution providing real-time subtitles, synthetic voice, and dubbing for live broadcasts. ‘EventCAT for Zoom,’ a real-time translation subtitle service for online meetings, will also be exhibited. EventCAT utilizes cutting-edge AI to offer human-like machine translation subtitles and dubbing for live sports broadcasts, home shopping channels, news, and more, designed for ease of use by localization experts.
