The second day of the High Touch High Tech (HTHT) 2021 conference about AI in Education with special session for teachers, led by Riiid, the Korean AI education company, and co-host. The world’s largest AIEd conference, HTHT 2021, started on June 29th, focusing on leveraging AIEd to narrow the achievement gap in education. The four-day conference is co-hosted by Riiid, Education Commission Asia, and TV Chosun.
The HTHT 2021 Conference will be hosting 150 speakers and panelists from ten nations across the EdTech ecosystem–global organizations, governments, academia, foundations, EdTech innovators, schools, parents, and students–to discuss the potential of AI in addressing the global learning crisis further exacerbated by COVID19.
Riiid lead AI for education talks on Day two
Riiid, the leading Korean AI education company, exclusively lead the AI in Education (AIEd) ecosystem track at the High Touch High Tech (HTHT) 2021 Conference with virtual all-day sessions on June 30. Riiid’s track, ‘Building a New Ecosystem for AIEd,’ featured eight talks designed to address the most prominent issues across the entire AIEd pipeline.
The event started with keynote speeches from YJ Jang, CEO & founder of Riiid, and Fengchun Miao, Chief of UNESCO’s Unit for Technology and AI in Education moderated by Ju Lo Hee, Chairman of the Asian Education Association. They spoke about challenges in the AIEd, resources in AI in education, government collaborations, partnerships with stakeholders, learning loss due to COVID-19, creating common consortiums, the future of AI in education, etc. “Today’s track on AI in education includes most important stakeholders – the teachers – the people with hands-on experience. AIEd is not going to change education without the help of the teachers,” said YJ Jang about the Riiid talk sessions for the day. Fengchun Miao emphasized global collaboration for AI in education. Jim Larimore, Chief Officer for Equity in Learning at Riiid, also shared his thoughts on the subject giving the US perspective.
The other sessions of the day had panel talks with audience participation. Topics that were covered in the talks included research topics and recent trends in AI for Education, especially transforming assessment methods from summative to formative as precipitated by COVID19, essential elements to make AIEd learning utility, translating research ideas into concrete products as well as a discussion on the future of educational assessments using AI.
Expert speakers on the panel included Ryan Baker, Director of the Center for Learning Analytics and Big Data at the University of Pennsylvania; Andreas Schleicher, Director for Education and Skills at OECD, Head of the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA); Maria Spies, Co-CEO and Co-Founder of HolonIQ; and Alina von Davier, Chief Assessment Officer at Duolingo, among others.

Teachers given the podium to discuss AIEd
A session on ‘The Abnormal Summit of Global Teachers – The Role of AI in Educational Innovation’ included teachers from Korea, Spain, Russia, the USA, and Brazil. A special offline session for Korean educators – ‘Korean Teachers Say – Expectations for AIEd’ – was led by Eunkyung Jang, Garak High School Senior Teacher, Education Consultant, and Jo Hoon, Professor Seojeong University, Chairman of the Learning Revolution Forum, Asian Education Association. The teachers talked about their experiences, expectations, challenges due to COVID-19 and concerns around AI in Education and got a better understanding of AIEd.
