Astronomy is an exciting yet complex subject, which Korean startup Sharebox is making fun of and accessible through MR (Mixed Reality) content. Sharebox has developed MR content oriented around education and culture by combining new video technology with the knowledge stemming from various ideas and experiences to understand Astronomy effortlessly.
Mixing VR & AR for educational content
The startup has created VR Astronomy education content with 22 episodes of 10 to 15 minutes divided into two series and available in Korean and English audio options and Indonesian subtitles. To make it interesting for children and adults, the VR-oriented episodes of astronomy are through character teachers of Lingti & Luki. The characters discuss various themes related to space, stars, planets, etc. Astronomy expert Jo Sung Jin has written the script for the series. The content also is made interactive by adding quizzes about astronomy. The full 360 VR videos are playable on HMD devices and made available through multiple platforms like PCs, tablets, etc.
Sharebox wants to explore B2B, B2G and B2C markets with its educational content. The startup plans to work with the Office of Education and local governments, cooperate with children’s observatories and camps, supply online teaching services with VR education content, join XR HMD platforms (Oculus Quest), join telecommunication companies in charge of transmitting educational content, offer a cross-platform service that allows user-oriented device selection.
Sharebox’s previous content included a visual storytelling immersive concert – My Love Clara. The interactive, immersive performance was conducted with AR photos and VR booths. The startup’s 2021 projects include Space Expedition 2021, a VR immersive 1st person space travel experience with added gamification: create moon maps, clean space trash, etc. an AR museum, and ‘What’s up, Seoul 2021’, a VR Seoul experience simulation content for various Seoul attractions. The company is already making progress with its MR content in South Korea and wants to expand to global shores with branch offices in Europe & East Asia.
