Korean dramas and entertainment programs are gaining popularity worldwide, and audiences from the United States, Europe, and Southeast Asia want to see the program with subtitles as soon as possible. In line with this trend, XL8AI, a startup specializing in media translation using Artificial Intelligence (AI), plans to expand its business area to provide translation services and platforms for the media content industry in various fields such as drama entertainment and game broadcasting.
XL8 Inc. has received an exclusive investment from Future Play. XL8AI started in Silicon Valley, the USA, in October 2019 and is expanding its business scope by establishing a Korean corporation in November 2021.
Faster than human translation service
XL8AI can accelerate the speed of content delivery for customers because it can translate faster than human translation through AI machine translation. XL8AI supports numerous media companies to advance into the global market by utilizing the new AI machine translation ecosystem specialized in media. Currently, the media-specialized AI of XL8AI translates 10,000,000 characters per day, and the quality control (additional translation) of professional translators is combined with this fast and accurate translation service. It can support global media services like Netflix, Disney, HBO, etc. XL8AI has partnered with IYUNO-SDI, which provides high-quality translation, subtitles, and dubbing services to global OTTs.
XL8AI CEO Jung Young-hoon said, “In November 2021, we established XL8AI to remove the language barrier from the media industry ecosystem completely. We plan to do our best to communicate without language barriers by using the cloud solution of XL8AI even when communicating in real-time with the Internet.” Future Play CEO Ryu Joong said, “Korea’s media content has already built world-class competitiveness, and the biggest barrier to entry of these excellent content overseas was language. XL8AI’s translation platform can provide an important foundation for the Korean media industry to advance overseas, and XL8AI will develop into a competitive company in Korea and globally.”
XL8AI was selected for the TIPS (Private Investment-led Technology Startup Support) program of the Ministry of SMEs and Startups in April 2022. TIPS is a representative support program that selects promising startups with excellent technology and supports government R&D budgets with private investors.
