Artificial Intelligence(AI) and IoT (Internet of Things) technologies are being extensively used in the fields of design, architecture, and space management. Smart construction solutions for smart cities are disrupting the traditional design forms. Korean startup Zenerate has devised a building design solution based on AI to optimize space layouts and estimate rent/sale prices.
The algorithm generates millions of building design possibilities
Zenerate is a software company that provides building design AI solutions that maximize architectural development projects’ viability. Zenerate’s algorithm generates over one million proposals to help clients find the best solution in their desired conditions.
In addition to getting things done quickly by automating what is being done manually, Zenerate searches and offers all possible building design alternatives. This can benefit architects, urban planners, and designers immensely. The system works in a simple pattern, where the project objectives like plans, rental/home price, construction cost, etc., are fed to the AI-based engine, which then generates the millions of possible options for building design. The startup is currently providing consultancy service and planning to launch a web application where clients can operate the system in real-time for optimum output.
Ultimate goal to resolve the issue of the urban housing shortage
The startup has been founded by Benji Shin, who holds a Master’s degree in architecture design from Harvard University. Before forming the company, Shin had conducted an R&D in building design automation in the US in 2017 with a small team. In 2019, he applied the Zenerate solution to the student housing project at the University of Southern California (USC). The technology has also been recognized at a number of conferences, including the American Institute of Architects. In 2020, it was incorporated both in Korea and Delaware, USA and completed a seed round investment attraction in July. In February, 2022, Zenerate closed a pre-series A round fundraising with five venture capital firms.
Currently, Shin’s startup is operated with 14 people, including team members in Los Angeles and New York, USA. The team consists of architectural designers, AI developers, software engineers and graphic designers. The CTO Jamie Jeong is a doctorate in mathematics from Caltech.
Zenerate’s primary goal is to provide all necessary information for real estate development such as zoning requirements, properties on sale, apartments rental price trends, news about recent developments. Shin believes Zenerate can ultimately contribute to solving the problem of urban housing shortages by making the real estate development easier and more profitable.
