Korean startup Beeble AI, renowned for its innovative approach to leveling the playing field in Visual Effects (VFX) for filmmakers, has secured a substantial seed investment from leading US-based venture capital firms Basis Set Ventures and Fika Ventures. This investment marks a significant milestone for the company, with a seed funding total of $4.75 million (approximately 6.5 billion won).
Visual effects (VFX) have become essential in modern filmmaking, transforming storytelling and enhancing creativity through advanced digital techniques. However, the high costs associated with VFX tools often present significant barriers for independent filmmakers and content creators working with limited budgets. Beeble AI aims to address this challenge by leveraging artificial intelligence to democratize VFX production, enabling smaller productions and indie filmmakers to achieve Hollywood-level visual effects.
Beeble’s flagship product, SwitchLight, is a cutting-edge virtual studio platform that empowers users to create high-quality video content with customizable lighting and backgrounds from any location. SwitchLight’s advanced AI technology accurately identifies the subject’s unique shape and color, producing ultra-realistic lighting effects, including shadows and light reflections, enhancing the overall production quality.
Seed Funding Led by Basis Set Ventures and Fika Ventures
Basis Set Ventures, known for its focus on AI and deep tech investments, led the funding round. The firm, headed by Lan Xuezhao, is noted for its early investment in Scale AI, a company valued at $1.4 billion and recognized by NVIDIA. Beeble’s ability to attract this investment highlights its global market potential, underscored by its growing customer base in the United States, including prominent video AI companies.
In 2022, Beeble received pre-seed funding from Mashup Ventures and Kakao Ventures and was selected for the prestigious Deep Tech TIPS program. This latest investment round will enable Beeble to enhance its technological capabilities and product development further.
“Our goal is to increase the production capabilities and work efficiency of individual artists with unique ideas, giving them the power to compete with large studios,” said Kim Hoon, CEO of Beeble. “We will use this investment as a starting point to devote ourselves even more to improving our technological capabilities and product development.”
Park Eun-woo, a partner at Mashup Ventures, expressed confidence in Beeble’s founding team, stating, “We believed in the potential of the founding team even when they had no business ideas, joined them as investors, and supported the company-wide discovery of items and overseas expansion. We hope that through this investment, they will establish themselves as a leading global AI company beyond Korea.”
