Cancer has the power to affect any family. 1 in 3 people will, unfortunately, be diagnosed with a form of cancer at some point in that life which really makes you think. Lots of people with a history of cancer in their family prepare by asking questions like should I get critical illness insurance? What will the best treatment be? Is there any way to prevent it? How soon can it be diagnosed? Well, we have an answer to that last question.
Cancer diagnostic is a complicated process and many studies are being conducted on the subject. One cancer diagnosis study uses exosomes, small particles in the body that contain information about the DNA and proteins of the original cells. Korean startup EXoPERT has developed an excellent technology to isolate high purity exosomes with no damage to the exosomes using chromatography. This technology promises to contribute greatly to a more precise and stable diagnosis.
Technology that isolates exosomes for accurate diagnosis
For accurate diagnosis it is important to isolate high-purity exosomes without damage in the blood. EXoPERT’s technology isolates exosomes and uses Raman scattering to analyze the isolated exosomes. Raman scattering can tell the structure of the molecule by changing the scattered light due to vibration and rotation of the molecule. This allows to analyze cancer information that exists in exosomes.
However, because exosomes are bio complexes, there is a lot of information such as proteins and DNA, which makes it difficult to analyze signals. EXoPERT can analyze the signal of exosomes through deep-learning and predict the similarity between patient and cancer.
EXoPERT technology is expected to be a simple and repeatable diagnostic technique without radiation. The startup expects that it will be used not only for cancer but also for progression of cancer and prediction of postoperative courses.
EXoPERT’s team will be attending the GITEX TECHNOLOGY WEEK to be held from October 6 to 10 in Dubai, supported by the Korea Institute of Startups & Entrepreneurship Development (KISED). The GITEX is the biggest tech show in the Middle East, North Africa and South Asia that attracts many prominent leaders from global companies, major media outlets, and influential investors.
