Kakao Enterprise announced that it has partnered with AMD, a global semiconductor company, to advance its cloud technology and target the premium cloud market.
On June 14, 2023, at the “AMD Data Center and AI Technology Premiere Conference” hosted by AMD, Kakao Enterprise CEO Lee Kyung-Jin participated as a representative speaker for the Asia-Pacific region. In his speech, which was released as a video, he showcased an example of the performance of the cloud by announcing the partnership between Kakao i Cloud and AMD, which was planned to support the advancement of AI technologies such as computer vision and natural language processing.
AMD CEO Lisa Su introduced Kakao i Cloud and its capabilities, such as computer vision and natural language processing, as the outcome of the close cooperation with Kakao.
In the video released that day, Lee showcased a simulation that accurately identifies faces and license plates or blurs specific areas in Kakao Map Road View, which can protect personal information, using Kakao i Cloud with Alveo™ V70, AMD’s latest AI inference accelerator. Lee said, “When switching to the Alveo™ V70, we expect a 50% reduction in our total cost of ownership while guaranteeing the same performance as the existing GPU. In addition, by utilizing the latest AI inference accelerator in Kakao i Cloud, we expect that we will be able to offer premium services without excessive cost increase compared to GPU-based data pre-processing systems.”
CEO Lee Kyung-jin also revealed that Kakao i Cloud is seeking close partnerships with other global tech companies in various ways to advance the cloud technology.
The AMD Data Center and AI Technology Premiere conference is a technology event that showcases AMD’s business strategy and product portfolio in the data and AI fields. The latest event was held both online and offline. Not only AMD CEO Lisa Su, but also global clients such as Microsoft, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Meta, Hugging Face, PyTorch, and Citadel participated as speakers.
