In the fast-moving world, stress is the biggest threat to human health. There are now many smart wearable devices in the market to check the stress levels and heart rates that can help stress detection and management. Korean startup Smart Diagnosis has developed a unique stress management solution app – CardiVu, that checks the heart information through pupil movements.
CardiVu has been developed after research and development of over 7 years. The app provides vital sign and stress measurement solutions with an accuracy of more than 90% without the use of wearables (smartwatches, etc.) simply by using the smartphone . CardiVu app monitors pupil dilation movements when the user uses the smartphone. The app uses the same nerve system path to detect the pulse variability as the pulse and continuously monitors the user’s cardio profile.
Analyses, stores data on heart rate
Cardivu is not a medical device, but the app developers have worked with specialist cardiologists to develop pupil tracking technology.
The application is constantly scanning pupil dilations and can do the scanning in the background. When the user focuses on the phone screen for a few minutes, the application starts watching the eye through the front camera. Analysis are performed on Amazon servers and data is stored on CardiVu’s own servers. Unlike other applications, the app tries to provide a profile by analyzing continuous data rather than giving a pulse rate. The continuous learning system can also generate stress maps.
Smart Diagnosis had shown the technology at the CES 2020 and had impressed the global tech experts. Though CardiVu’s accuracy can’t be compared to a medical-grade heart rate monitoring device, the app developers say that the precision of the heart-rate variability is ‘clinically useful.’
