Korean health tech startup H Robotics is forging ahead with global expansion as it announced its entry into the Middle Eastern market and collaboration in the US market. H Robotics has developed the rehabilitation robot Rebless, an FDA-registered robotic therapy device for both upper and lower extremities, used to treat elbow, wrist, ankle and knee joint problems.
Selection for the Selat program in Abu Dhabi
The healthcare and robotics startup was selected for the Selat program, jointly run by Invest Seoul, the Korea Trade-Investment Promotional Agency (KOTRA) and the Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO). ADIO helps investors and companies grow and develop in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. Selat program provides financial support and ease in regulations to enter the Abu Dhabi market.
H Robotics is among the eight startups selected this year for the Selat program. The company develops, manufactures and distributes rehab solutions, including medical robots and date-driven telemedicine solutions for people with neurological and musculoskeletal conditions. Rebless is a remote solution that combines rehab robots and the internet of things (IoT). It is characterized by easily performing rehabilitation exercises at home and medical institutions. H Robotics participated with Rebless in the Arab Health exhibition last year and planned to launch Rebless Planar, an upper limb rehabilitation robot, this year.
Collaboration with American company Medtronics
H Robotics was also selected for the ‘2022 Overseas Proof of Concept (POC) Support Program’ promoted by the Korea Startup Promotion Agency. The purpose of this program is ‘to advance overseas through collaboration with global conglomerates and unicorns in North America and Europe.’ Through this, H Robotics expects to secure a more effective supply chain in the US.
In particular, this program provided an opportunity for H-Robotics to collaborate with Medtronic, an American medical device company. In the future, it plans to secure an additional USUS distribution network through close dialogue with Medtronic.
H Robotics has been seeking commercialization in the global market since the beginning of its business. Last year, it established a North American branch and is producing results such as supply and partnership agreements with North American medical specialist ‘Intuitive X.’
In addition, it is establishing a clinical research plan by signing a letter of intent (LOI) with local government agencies and companies in the United States. Brooks Rehabilitation and Texas neuro rehab are also supplying ‘Rebless’ through pilot programs with a number of institutions. Rebless, was registered with the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2020.
