The world is moving towards smart farming solutions. In Korea, the government supports holistic smart farming innovations and encourages startups to create better digital management tools for the farming community. Korean agritech startup Green Labs is leading the path to empower farmers with digital solutions.
Green Labs announced its agricultural comprehensive platform app ‘Farm Morning’ has surpassed 700,000 members. Farm Morning service was launched in July 2020 to give farmers and agricultural practitioners better control of their fresh produce and educate customers about reliable sourcing.
Farm Morning app collects AI data and informs farmers of various aspects of farming like crop lifecycle. It provides a farm log to record the situation. The app includes subsidy services that allow the user to understand government/local government support projects, specialized education, and loan information at a glance. It also has a farming curriculum that allows setting monthly and annual agricultural plans, checking urgent tasks for each period at a glance, and digital farm work.
Green Labs to expand overseas
Green Labs, founded in 2017 by Scott Sungwoo Choi, Shin and Luke Donghyun Ahn, wants to digitize the entire value chain of agriculture from crop production to distribution with a mission to address the global food supply problem sustainably. The startup has also built smart farming software and hardware for farmers to manage farms using technologies like the internet of things, robotics and artificial intelligence.
In January 2022, Green Labs had raised $140 million in Series C funding led by BRV Capital Management, with participation from Skylake Incuvest and SK Square. An official from Green Labs said, “We are preparing to launch a service with advanced sales (distribution) and finance, which farmers find difficult, as well as planning and production of crops.” The Seoul-based firm has expanded to China and Vietnam with its smart farm technologies since 2021. It also plans to penetrate other markets overseas
